Hi there! The news cycle – like life itself – is overwhelming for many folks, of all backgrounds and ideologies (especially those who are losing access to basic rights like free speech, which is certainly an issue we should all rally behind). Hopefully you were able to find some tips on regulating yourself when you’re overwhelmed, and wishing you nothing but peace and groundedness. – Emily

The insights provided, especially the explanation of how our bodies react to stress and the importance of caring for our nervous systems, are both eye – opening and practical.

The tips presented are diverse and accessible. Identifying emotions helps prevent projection, and practicing random acts of kindness not only benefits others but also uplifts our mood. Joining social activities combats isolation, and living life as normally as possible in the face of uncertainty is a healthy approach.

Among these, the concept of practicing slow living resonates deeply. In our fast – paced lives, we often forget to savor the simple pleasures. Taking the time to read a book before bed or enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning is a great way to unwind. I can picture myself doing this, sipping coffee from my tumbler while looking out the window, observing the world around me. The tumbler becomes a small yet significant part of this slow – living experience, holding my drink as I take a moment to be present.

Noticing the beauty in the world and finding news boundaries are also crucial. By focusing on the positive and controlling our exposure to overwhelming news, we can better manage our stress levels. And for those who ruminate, the somatic practice of “orienting” seems like a useful tool.

Overall, this article serves as a valuable resource. It reminds us that we have the power to take care of our nervous systems, and by implementing these tips, we can build resilience and face the challenges of life with more calmness and confidence.

I unfollowed (but not unfriended) friends and family on social media who posted constantly about the news (R or L), I stopped listening to news podcasts and following news social media pages. The only source I kept is Ground News and once a week I read just the headlines and allow myself to read one full article and never read any comments. The results of all this? My life has significantly improved. I replaced all that worrying media with gardening, with talking to my neighbors (both R & D), with serving my community more, with reading so much more, with taking dance classes, with exercising, with cooking and baking. Life is great if you get your head out of the toilet of despair about things you cannot control.

Peace & love from the other side.
