I am a married suburban mother of two young kids, with close friends who are in their 30s/40s still living their lives in the city and traveling to their heart’s content. I sometimes daydream about what I’d be doing if I did not have a home or family obligations. I imagine all the hobbies I’d take up, the trips I’d get to take. How I’d curate and decorate my space if it were all my own. Sometimes I feel guilty for thinking these things. But it doesn’t mean that I don’t love the life I have now or that I regret the decisions that led to me having a family. I am a natural daydreamer, and I am sure I’d be dreaming of what I have now if I were to be unmarried or childless.

I live by the ocean and there is always someone which I count dogs as someone’s, who would love a smile or hello. They always respond and that has made all the difference. If you’re lounging for answer give it to another they have your answers.

I actually think this lifestyle is not so parallel or out of sight if I consider where I’m at in life. Thanks for the inspo!

It reminds me of “The Midnight Library” that I read a couple of years ago. The lives we haven’t lived. I thought about taking a notebook and just write about some of the oaths that didn’t happen to explore what thoughts I might have about them.

I have a bachelor’s in graphic design, yet a deep yearning for community connectedness through plants, animals, and environment. Graduate school wasn’t feasible financially, especially given I had no prior experience and I tested out a summer bird research role and realized analytical science may not be for me. I am channeling this instead into embodying the Naturalist that I am and deeply learning Bioregional Herbalism. While not getting to do Graduate school, I do instead get to start my Herbalism course in October and am taking a singular Botany class at my local university. I like to think that all of these paths are interwoven and that while they’re different, they still serve my values to their core. Just grieving the “credentials” of Graduate school I guess. 💌

(Except for deliberately killing someone. That would lead to a path we wouldn’t want to be on.) Different past decisions would have lead to a different path in life. The situations would not have been better or worse, just different.

One of my biggest life regrets is feom University, when I went into credit card debt to buy flight tickets to my planned year abroad to Ecuador.
The summer before I began to fall in love with my now Wife, and when Sept came there was no more experienced than I in life adult telling me ok its time to pack up and get on the plane. So I didn’t.
I would have spoken a 2nd language at least partially, and had incredible life experiences there. Maybe my career would look more like my dreams back then (an International non-profit or the U.N for example).
I work in the city where I grew up as a community based healthcare worker. I love this role and this (quiet) reality. But I can’t help but wonder how my story would be different had I got on that plane.
